Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens

This morning we checked out of our AirBnB in Mendocino and got back on Highway One headed north.  First stop, the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, just south of Fort Bragg.   (Actually, our first stop was Dennys for breakfast in Fort Bragg).

Here we are outside the Botanical Gardens entrance on another beautiful day.

The gardens were surprisingly large.  Four miles of trails included a half-mile walk to the ocean.

We started in the Perennial Garden.

This could be a painting.

Lynnette is a big fan of botanical gardens.  She knows the names of most the flowers and bushes.

Another pretty shot.

The Mae E. Lauer Display House is filled to the rafters with a world-class collection of Begonias and Fuchslas.

The pictures don't do it justice; really beautiful.

Heaths and heathers, I believe.

The cactus and succulents area.

Nice inscription which could apply to Lynnette and I.

The Dahlia Garden featuring magnolias of every color.

It doesnt get much more colorful than this.

But wait, there's more!

Approaching the "Natural Area".

We reach the Coastal Bluff.

The trail leads through coastal prairie.

Looking north.

California State Flower:  the California Poppy.

Special places like this are always the results of a few people who take it upon themselves to make it happen.

If you are ever up in coastal northern California, be sure and check out the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens!
